Leave the plugin stack behind, keep the rankings.
Most people move off WooCommerce because they're tired of being their own sysadmin. The migration itself is straightforward, the parts that need care are variations, subscriptions and URLs.

The reason is nearly always the same: hosting, plugin updates, security patching and PCI compliance have become a job nobody signed up for, and a plugin conflict took the checkout down during a sale. Shopify makes all of that somebody else's problem.
Technically, WooCommerce to Shopify is one of the cleaner migrations. Both are well-documented and the data exports properly. The three things that actually need thought are how your variations map, what happens to subscriptions, and the URL structure.
Where WooCommerce moves
go wrong.
Variation limits
Shopify allows three options per product. WooCommerce doesn't limit attributes, so complex configurable products need remodelling before they'll import.
Subscriptions don't transfer
WooCommerce Subscriptions data cannot move to a Shopify subscription app automatically. Customers must re-authorise payment.
URL structure differs
WooCommerce product and category paths are configurable; Shopify's are not. Every URL changes.
Custom fields and meta
Years of ACF fields, custom taxonomies and plugin metadata that have no direct Shopify equivalent.
How we handle
the move.
Variation remodelling
We map your configurable products onto Shopify's three-option limit, or build the alternative where a product genuinely needs more.
Full data migration
Products, variants, images, collections, customers and order history, validated against the source rather than trusted.
Subscription rebuild
Recurring plans recreated on a Shopify subscription app, with a customer re-authorisation flow and email sequence.
Complete redirect map
Every product, category, page and post URL mapped and redirecting from the moment of launch.
Custom field strategy
We work out what your ACF and plugin metadata should become, metafields, product content, or dropped deliberately.
Four weeks of monitoring
Rankings, traffic and errors watched after launch so problems get caught early.

Every migration includes this.
- Full URL inventory and reviewed redirect map
- 301 redirects live at launch
- Products, variants, images and collections migrated and validated
- Customers and complete order history transferred
- Subscription plans rebuilt with a re-authorisation flow
- Custom field and metadata mapping decisions documented
- Analytics and search property setup
- Four weeks of post-launch monitoring
Why we'd build this on Shopify
You're trading control for operational relief. Shopify takes hosting, security, PCI and updates entirely off your plate, at the cost of checkout flexibility and a monthly fee. If plugin maintenance is what's driving the move, that's exactly the right trade.
- No more plugin updates, security patching or PCI scope
- Checkout maintained and optimised by Shopify
- Predictable monthly cost instead of hosting plus licences
How the migration runs.
- 01
Audit and inventory
We crawl the store, inventory every URL, and review your product structure, custom fields and plugin dependencies.
- 02
Model mapping
Variations, attributes and metadata mapped onto Shopify's model. Anything that doesn't fit gets a documented decision rather than being silently dropped.
- 03
Build and import
New store built, data imported to a development store, then validated record by record against WooCommerce.
- 04
Subscriptions and redirects
Recurring plans rebuilt, customer communications drafted, and the full redirect map prepared and reviewed.
- 05
Launch and monitor
Cutover with redirects live, sitemap submitted, four weeks of monitoring.
What moves the price on
a migration.
We quote fixed prices per project rather than by the hour, so scope is what determines cost. These are the four things that move it most.
Product structure complexity
Simple products import cleanly. Configurable products exceeding Shopify's three-option limit need remodelling, and that's genuine work.
Subscriptions
The largest single variable. Rebuilding recurring billing and migrating customers onto it is a project inside the project.
Volume of custom fields
A store with years of ACF fields and custom taxonomies needs decisions about each one. Some become metafields, some are dropped.
URL history depth
More years of content and category archives means more to map and verify.

Get your fixed-price quoteAlmost nobody migrates off WooCommerce because of WooCommerce. They migrate because maintaining a store became a second job.
That's a legitimate reason, and the move is straightforward, as long as the variations, the subscriptions and the redirect map get the attention they need rather than the attention that fits the budget.

Questions merchants
ask before migrating.
Will our product variations survive the move?+
Mostly. Shopify allows three options per product (size, colour, material for example), and up to 100 variants. WooCommerce has no such limit, so if you have products with four or more attributes we remodel them, usually by splitting into linked products or using metafields. We identify this in the audit, before quoting.
What happens to our WooCommerce Subscriptions?+
They don't transfer automatically, and no tool changes that, payment authorisations are tied to your current gateway. Plans get rebuilt on a Shopify subscription app and customers re-authorise. It needs a proper email sequence and some churn is realistic. Flag it early; it's the biggest variable in the project.
Will we lose SEO?+
Not with a complete redirect map live at launch. WooCommerce and Shopify use different URL structures so every URL changes, but a 301 from each old URL to its closest new equivalent preserves the great majority of accumulated authority. Expect a short dip, then recovery.
Can we keep our order history?+
Yes. Customers and historical orders migrate across so your records and customer service history stay intact. Passwords can't transfer, so customers reset on first login.
Is Shopify actually cheaper than WooCommerce?+
Often not, once you compare like for like. WooCommerce is free but you pay for hosting, extensions and someone's time to maintain it. Shopify is a predictable monthly fee with that time included. The real question is whether you want to own the maintenance, and most people migrating have already answered it.
How long will it take?+
3 to 6 weeks typically. Large catalogues or a subscription rebuild push it longer. You get an exact timeline with the quote.
