Migrations

Outgrown Wix? Move without starting from zero.

Wix is genuinely good for getting online fast. It becomes a problem when you need real SEO control, custom functionality, or simply the ability to leave.

Moving a website to a new platform

Wix does exactly what it promises: a decent-looking site, quickly, without a developer. Businesses outgrow it for consistent reasons. They want proper control over page structure and metadata, they need functionality Wix doesn't offer, or they've realised there's no export and no way out.

That last one is the real constraint. Wix has no meaningful export, so a migration is a rebuild rather than a data transfer. The content moves across, but the site is built fresh.

The problem

Why businesses
outgrow Wix.

No real export

Wix doesn't let you take your site with you. Content has to be extracted and rebuilt rather than exported and imported.

Limited SEO control

Structured data, URL structure, redirects and technical fixes are all constrained by what Wix chooses to expose.

Performance you can't fix

You don't control the stack, so when Core Web Vitals are poor there is a limit to what you can do about it.

Functionality you can't add

Integrations and custom features that are ordinary on WordPress are simply unavailable.

What we build

How we handle
the move.

01

Content extraction

We pull every page, post and image out of Wix, since there's no export, this is done systematically rather than by hand where possible.

02

URL mapping and redirects

Wix URL patterns mapped to clean WordPress equivalents, with 301 redirects live at launch.

03

Rebuilt, not ported

A custom WordPress theme rather than an approximation of the Wix layout. You're rebuilding anyway, worth doing properly.

04

Real SEO control

Metadata, schema, canonical tags, redirects and structure all fully under your control for the first time.

05

Faster by construction

A lean custom theme rather than a platform you can't optimise.

06

Four weeks of monitoring

Rankings and traffic watched after launch so anything that slips gets caught.

Mapping URLs before a migration
What's included

Every migration includes this.

  • Full content extraction from Wix
  • URL inventory and 301 redirect map live at launch
  • Custom WordPress theme built for your content
  • SEO foundations, clean markup, schema, sitemap
  • Images optimised and re-uploaded properly
  • Analytics and Search Console continuity
  • Team training so you can publish yourself
  • Four weeks of post-launch monitoring
WordPress

Why we'd build this on WordPress

WordPress gives you ownership: your content, your hosting, your code, and the ability to move again if you ever want to. The trade is that maintenance becomes your responsibility, which is what care plans exist for.

  • You own the site, the content and the ability to leave
  • Full control over SEO, structure and integrations
  • No platform ceiling on what you can add later
How we work

How the migration runs.

  1. 01

    Content and URL audit

We inventory every page and post on the Wix site, plus which URLs currently earn traffic or have links pointing at them.

  2. 02

    Extraction

Content pulled out of Wix and prepared for WordPress. This is the step nobody enjoys and it has to be thorough.

  3. 03

    Design and build

A custom theme designed around your actual content, approved before development.

  4. 04

    Load and map

Content loaded into WordPress, redirect map prepared from Wix URLs to the new structure and reviewed by you.

  5. 05

    Launch and monitor

Cutover with redirects live, sitemap submitted, four weeks of monitoring.

Budget

What moves the price on
a migration.

We quote fixed prices per project rather than by the hour, so scope is what determines cost. These are the four things that move it most.

Number of pages and posts

The main driver, because extraction is largely manual. Twenty pages is quick; four hundred blog posts is a real piece of work.

Whether you redesign

You're rebuilding regardless, so most people improve the design at the same time. Recreating the Wix look exactly saves less than you'd expect.

Functionality to replace

Wix bookings, stores or forms need WordPress equivalents chosen and configured.

Image volume

Wix serves images through its own CDN, so they all need extracting, optimising and re-uploading.

The honest case for leaving Wix isn't that it's bad. It's that you've reached the edge of what it will let you do, and there's no way to take your site with you when you find that out.

Moving is more work than a normal migration precisely because of that. It's also the last time you'll have the problem.

FAQ

Questions businesses
ask before migrating.

Can we export our site from Wix?+

Not meaningfully. Wix offers a blog post export in some plans, but there's no full site export. That's deliberate. In practice a migration is a rebuild: we extract the content, then build the site properly on WordPress. It's more work than a platform-to-platform transfer and worth knowing before you plan the budget.

Will we lose our Google rankings?+

Not with a complete redirect map. Wix uses its own URL patterns, so URLs will change, every one needs a 301 to its closest new equivalent, live at launch. Done properly you see a short dip then recovery, and often an improvement afterwards because you finally have technical SEO control.

Will WordPress be harder to use than Wix?+

Different rather than harder, if it's built well. Wix's editor is more visual; a properly built WordPress site gives you structured fields for the things that should change, which is actually simpler for routine editing and much harder to break.

How long does it take?+

3 to 6 weeks for most business sites. The variable is content volume, extraction is the slow part, especially with a large blog.

Can we keep our domain?+

Yes. Your domain is yours regardless of where the site is hosted. We handle the DNS change at cutover so there's no downtime.

What will it cost to run afterwards?+

Hosting is typically less than a Wix premium plan. The new cost is maintenance (updates, backups, security), which you either do yourself or put on a care plan. Be realistic about that when comparing.
