HVAC search retainers

What an HVAC SEO company changes before the season turns

An HVAC SEO company earns you the replacement research and the quiet weeks between seasons. We sell that retainer, we work inside your WordPress build, and we run no ad accounts at all.

Two weeks in July can carry a quarter. Every competitor raises their bid on the same afternoon, so a click costs most in the fortnight you need it. Then April arrives and the board empties.

That swing is what we get hired to flatten. Organic positions take a season to arrive, then sit through the quiet weeks earning the heat pump research that becomes a five figure job in November. A page written in March is early, which is the only way this works.

We have built and maintained HVAC sites on WordPress since 2018. Retained search work is newer ground for this team, put plainly here so nobody is surprised in month four. We run no ad accounts, so if media is what this month needs you will hear it.

The problem

Why the pipeline swings so hard

October reads as a collapse

Hold October against August and organic traffic has halved. Nothing broke. Cooling demand ended and heating has not started, so month against month is the wrong instrument.

Costs peak the week demand does

HVAC PPC bids climb hardest in the same fortnight everyone else is bidding. That is the auction working correctly, and it is why an account that only runs in a heat wave never gets cheaper.

One services page doing two seasons

Cooling and heating share a heading and a paragraph. Google has nothing to rank for a furnace query, so it ranks a manufacturer instead.

The maintenance plan is a footer link

Recurring revenue gets one line at the bottom while the emergency number gets three. That is backwards.

What we do

What the retainer works on

01

Pages written in the quiet months

A page published during a heat wave is a URL Google has never seen. We write and ship in February and September, so it is indexed, linked and aged before the season turns.

02

Repair intent split from replacement

Not cooling and short cycling are today problems wanting a phone number. Heat pump against furnace runs for weeks and needs ranges, financing terms and a comparison a homeowner can follow.

03

Dealer locators and trade listings, claimed

Carrier, Trane, Lennox and Mitsubishi all run dealer locators, and most contractors have never read their own entry. Those, plus ACCA membership and NATE certifications, are citations sitting unclaimed.

04

Rebate and credit pages that answer it

Homeowners search the utility rebate and the federal efficiency credit long before they search for you. Those pages carry the date they were last checked and a link to the program, because the figures move with the tax year and a stale number is worse than no page.

What's included

In every HVAC retainer

  • A month one audit of crawl, index coverage, schema and page speed
  • A full Search Console export before any month of history rolls off
  • Reporting compared year over year rather than month against month
  • Template and on page work done by us and shipped as commits you keep
  • A quarterly review where we reforecast or say it is not working
How this works

HVAC PPC or organic search: which one to buy, and when

Where a paid click and an organic click collide

Here is the comparison without a pitch on either side. HVAC PPC puts you at the top of a heat wave the afternoon you fund it, and it stops the day the card stops. Organic takes a season to arrive and then works through the months nobody is bidding in. An HVAC SEO company cannot sell you the first of those, so if the phone has to ring inside a fortnight, buy the media.

The part worth your attention is the overlap. Pull your search terms report and set it beside your Search Console queries. Paying for a click on a query the site already ranks first for is common, and brand terms are usually where it sits. Reading that overlap takes hours rather than software, and it is the only paid work we do.

The retainer itself runs against your calendar. February and March go on heating replacement and tune up writing while the trucks are quiet. June is technical work only, because nobody should be editing templates during a heat wave. September reverses the pattern.

Outreach is local and unglamorous. Supplier and manufacturer listings, utility contractor lists, the trade directory, a news piece after a cold snap. We buy no links, because that risk would sit on your domain.

  • Work scheduled around your season, not a generic calendar
  • Fixed hours, logged against named work each month
  • Your own Search Console access from the first week
  • No annual lock in, thirty days notice either way
How we work

The first ninety days

  1. 01

    Week one, the audit

Crawl, index coverage, structured data, and field data for Core Web Vitals read from the Chrome UX Report rather than a lab run. Your dealer locator entries get read the same week.

  2. 02

    Week two, the history

Sixteen months of Search Console data comes out to a sheet before the far end rolls off. That one export is what lets year two be measured against a real year one.

  3. 03

    Week three, the season map

We agree which pages get written in which month, tied to when you want the phone ringing. You sign it off before a word is drafted.

  4. 04

    The monthly cycle

Technical work, writing, outreach, report, call. The mix moves with the month instead of holding at a tidy even split.

  5. 05

    Day ninety

Results get read against the same period last year and against the dated baseline. Ninety days inside a shoulder season shows very little, and we would rather say that now.

Budget

What moves the monthly figure

How many systems you service

Residential cooling alone is a narrow page set. Add heat pumps, rooftop units, ductless and air quality work and the budget grows with each one.

The state of the build

A clean install needs few technical hours. A theme from 2016 running a slider plugin on shared hosting needs a great many of them before new writing makes sense.

Whether the paid overlap gets analysed

Reading your search terms report against organic positions is extra hours on top. It often pays for itself, by finding queries you already own and are still bidding on.

Who implements

Some HVAC companies already have a developer on the payroll and want the plan document only. Most want us in the code.

From the work

The sixteen month trap

Here is the trap in every HVAC report. The Search Console performance report holds sixteen months, then drops the oldest day, and the date picker will not offer a start date outside that window. Looker Studio does not rescue it, because its connector reads the same window, so October against August reads as a collapse when it is only weather. We export the whole property in week one.

Tell us which equipment lines you carry and which two months last year were the worst. That is enough to sketch a season map: what gets written in February, what gets written in September, and which month the writing is meant to pay for.

If you want the paid overlap read as well, export twelve months of search terms and send that too. It is priced separately, because it is hours and it does not always find anything. When it does, it usually finds you bidding on a query you already own.

FAQ

Questions HVAC owners ask

Is HVAC PPC or SEO better for a contractor?+

They answer different questions, so the month decides. Paid buys the top of a heat wave immediately and ends when the budget does. Organic takes a season to arrive, then keeps earning the replacement research that runs through the quiet weeks.

What does an HVAC SEO company do each month?+

Technical fixes to the site, pages written against your season rather than a generic calendar, and outreach to dealer locators and trade directories. Then a report built from your own Search Console property, compared against the same period a year earlier.

How long does organic search take for an HVAC company?+

The season decides, not the calendar. Technical and profile fixes can show inside weeks. A page must be indexed and aged before the season it serves arrives, so a furnace page drafted in March proves itself in the first cold week of November.

Do I need both ads and organic search?+

Plenty of HVAC companies run both and taper the media as organic positions hold through the shoulder months. The trap is paying for clicks on queries you already rank first for, which your search terms report shows the moment anybody looks.
